Throw grenades on operations

Assessment tool

Version 1.0
Issue Date: May 2024

The application of this unit in the workplace - the environments, complexities and situations involved - will be written during Phase II of the Review of the PUA00 Public Safety Training Package.

This text will be useful for the purposes of job descriptions, recruitment advice or job analysis; where possible, it will not be too job specific to allow other industries to import it into other Training Packages, where feasible.

This unit covers the competency required to effectively throw a grenade on operations in the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

The individual will be under supervision, usually as part of a team but if authorised has the ability to act independently in accordance with the Rules of Engagement.

You may want to include more information here about the target group and the purpose of the assessments (eg formative, summative, recognition)

Evidence Required

List the assessment methods to be used and the context and resources required for assessment. Copy and paste the relevant sections from the evidence guide below and then re-write these in plain English.

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit

Assessment must confirm the ability to complete all grenade drills as listed in the Range Statement; to throw the high explosive (HE) grenade from all positions listed in the Range Statement; to work as part of a team; and to recognise limit of own authority.

Consistency in performance

Competency should be demonstrated over time and in a range of actual live firing contexts.

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Context of assessment

Competency should be assessed using HE grenades and in a simulated operational threat environment. The grenade thrower should be exposed to the extremes of the operational environment where a person is under physical and mental stress. The context of assessment is simulated due to the nature of this high-risk environment.

Specific resources for assessment

Access to grenades and a simulated operational environment.

Guidance information for assessment

Information that will assist or guide assessment will be written during Phase II of the Review of the PUA00 Public Safety Training Package.
